What is Maintenance Funds
If you an international student and planning to apply for a UK Tier 4 (General) Student Visa, you will have to show that you have enough money to pay for living expenses & outstanding amount of your first-year tuition fees (Known as maintenance funds). You can either deposit the required amount in your bank account or you can also use the money available in your parents or legal guardians’ account.
How Much Money You Need Show as Your Maintenance Funds
This interactive maintenance funds calculator will help you determine, how much money do you need to show in your bank account as your maintenance funds before you apply for your student visa. If you are applying for a student visa on the Doctorate Extension Scheme, or as a Student Union Sabbatical Officer, or as a postgraduate doctor or dentist on a recognised Foundation Programme, you will have to show that have enough money to cover your living expenses for a maximum of 2 months (each month you will have to show £1265 if your university is in inner London and £1015 if your university is in outside London. For everyone else, you can use the calculator below to calculate your maintenance funds. You will also need to show maintenance funds for all of your dependants (i.e wife, spouse) if they will be coming to the UK with you.
